Description
HydroXoil Pro Soil Moisture and Temperature Meter
HydroXoil Pro is a two in one soil moisture content meter and ground thermometer that measures volumetric water content and ground temperature instantly. It is portable, accurate, and designed for professional, agricultural, and research use.
Why Choose HydroXoil Pro
-
Instant results for soil moisture percentage and ground temperature
-
One rugged probe for both soil moisture and temperature readings
-
Built for commercial farms, greenhouses, turf, and research labs
How does HydroXoil Pro Soil Moisture Meter Works
The HydroXoil Pro uses SMT100 soil moisture probe, a maintenance-free capacitive sensor based on the TDT (time domain transmission) principle. The green probe blade carries an electrical signal, and the time it takes for the signal to travel is influenced by the water content in the soil. Moist soils have higher dielectric permittivity, which slows down the signal.
An internal microcontroller processes this information and outputs:
-
Soil Temperature
-
Volumetric water content (VWC), calculated using the well-established Topp equation
Because soil moisture and ground temperature are measured at the same depth with one insertion, you get fast, reliable, and repeatable results in both field and lab conditions.
Technical Advantages of SMT100 Soil Moisture Content Probe
-
Moisture measurement
Displays volumetric water content (VWC) in percentage. Factory calibration works well in mineral soils. A simple two point calibration can be done for special media like peat or organic soils. -
Temperature measurement
Integrated sensor provides stable ground temperature readings with typical accuracy of ±0.2 °C across a wide range. -
Resolution
Moisture resolution is better than 0.1%. Temperature resolution is better than 0.01 °C. -
Measurement range
Soil moisture: 0% to 60% VWC and beyond, depending on soil type
Temperature: -40 °C to +80 °C (digital versions) -
Connectivity
The SMT100 probe works with the HydroXoil Pro handheld soil moisture content meter, or connect directly to data loggers with RS-485 (Modbus or ASCII), SDI-12, analog 0–10 V, 4–20 mA, or UART for IoT projects. -
Durable construction
Fiberglass-reinforced probe blade with epoxy-sealed electronics and a polyurethane cable that resists water, microbes, and wear. Standard cable length is 10 meters.
HydroXoil Pro Handheld Meter Main Features
The HydroXoil Pro handheld reader is designed for easy use in the field.
-
Clear LCD display for real-time values
-
One button operation for quick spot checks
-
Rugged housing built for outdoor use
-
Powered by a standard 9 V battery with long life
-
Sensor connection via 5-pin DIN plug
-
Compact size: about 7.2 × 3.3 × 2.2 inches
How Deep Should the Soil Moisture Probe Be Inserted?
For accurate results, insert the soil moisture meter probe into the root zone of the plant you are testing. For turf or crops, this is usually 4 to 8 inches deep. For trees or larger plants, insert the probe up to 12 inches or more to reach the main root zone. Measuring at the right depth ensures you capture the moisture that actually supports plant growth.
How to Use a Soil Moisture Content Meter
-
Insert the probe straight into the soil, avoiding stones or roots.
-
Press the handheld meter’s button to start the reading.
-
Wait a few seconds for both soil moisture and ground temperature to display.
-
Take readings at several locations for a complete soil profile.
-
Use the percentage values to guide irrigation or soil management.
HydroXoil Pro Soil Moisture Content Meter is designed to make this process simple, reliable, and repeatable.
What does Soil Moisture Percentage Mean?
The HydroXoil Pro displays soil moisture in percentage of volumetric water content. Typical values:
-
0% to 15% – very dry soil, risk of plant stress
-
15% to 30% – moderate, suitable for many crops and turf
-
30% to 50% – moist to wet soil, ideal for water-demanding plants
-
50%+ – saturated soil, possible overwatering
These values provide a guideline. Every soil type and crop has its own ideal range, and HydroXoil Pro makes it easy to track those numbers with confidence.
Ideal for Commercial, Agricultural, and Professional Use
HydroXoil Pro is more than just a garden tool. It is a professional-grade instrument designed for:
-
Commercial farms – optimize irrigation schedules and conserve water
-
Agricultural research – collect reliable soil data for field trials and studies
-
Greenhouses and horticulture – manage pots and raised beds precisely
-
Turf and landscaping – prevent dry spots or overwatering on golf courses and sports fields
-
Environmental and engineering projects – monitor soils in wetlands, restoration sites, and construction fills
FAQs: Soil Moisture Content Meter
Does HydroXoil Pro measure both moisture and temperature at the same time?
Yes, the soil moisture probe and ground thermometer functions are combined in one device. Both values display instantly.
What does the moisture percentage reading mean?
It shows volumetric water content (VWC), the percentage of water compared to total soil volume.
Can I log data continuously?
Yes. The SMT100 probe can connect to a data logger or controller using RS-485, SDI-12, or analog outputs.
Is it built for outdoor use?
Yes, the probe and cable are sealed and reinforced to withstand tough soil conditions.
How long does the handheld battery last?
The handheld meter runs on a standard 9 V battery, designed for long field life before replacement.
